The Tenents of Tae Kwon Do
Courtesy Humility Integrity Perseverance Self-Control Indomitable Spirit
COURTESY is simply respect for other people.
HUMILITY is recognizing one’s own shortcomings and realizing that no matter what a person’s accomplishments may be, they are small next to the wonders of nature.
INTEGRITY is a sense of wholeness, living a true life by adhering to one’s principles no matter what. Integrity is not measured by what you do when others are looking, but what you do when others are not looking.
PERSEVERANCE is maintaining one’s path and goals even in the face of adversity.
SELF-CONTROL is mental and physical command. Being able to remain calm and collected under any stress.
INDOMITABLE SPIRIT is knowing that if you are travelling a true path and have faith in what you are doing, that you will achieve your goals.
In the final analysis, it is these six qualities of spirit that will keep the martial artist on the mountain of life, regardless of the body’s physical limitations the years bring forth. To develop and to cherish these qualities and then to practice them, will enable the martial artist to face any and all terrain on the mountain of life where family, work, leisure, friendship and spirituality flow like streams into a lake, running over with water for everything living.
